Duck Lips and An Awkward Phase
Hello everyone. I hope that you had a good weekend and if you didn’t, I hope that this week goes a lot better. Today I’ve tried my hand at another portrait. I used a picture by a photographer named Eli DeFaria as a reference. I’m sorry but they didn’t give the model’s name so I unfortunately don’t have that for you.
I chose the image because the model was posing with “duck lips” in a semi-subtle way. I wanted to practice this unusual lip position in my drawing. It’s not too bad I think for a first attempt but there are some things I would do differently in the future. I feel my drawings are going through an awkward phase though. For some reason, while I’m laying out the groundwork at the beginning of my drawing things look fine and I’m happy with the drawing while I’m working on it. But the moment I finish it all I see are things that need correcting (in my opinion). This usually happens every once in a while, that’s just the nature of making art. Not every piece is going to be your favorite. But lately I feel like my images are going wonky. So even though I am not happy with the way things turned out with this drawing, I’m posting it anyway. There’s nothing to do but to keep practicing and learning. Hopefully my awkward phase will end soon.
